Take Note
Christians can easily allow political reality to determine what we think we should want.
We consider what our party will support, what voters will tolerate, what legislation can pass, and what seems realistic. Those questions have a place in political decision-making, but they shouldn't define our desires.
Christians should begin somewhere else: What does God call good?
Our desires for our government, our communities, and our nation should be formed by Scripture, even when what Scripture describes seems politically impossible. Faith allows us to desire something better than the choices currently available to us.
In this devotional reflection, we consider what it means to let God’s character and Word define what we desire before political parties, movements, elections, and practical limitations tell us what is possible.
Scripture: Proverbs 14:34; Romans 13:1–7; Matthew 6:10.
