Serving at Cedar Springs

We Are a Body

At Cedar Springs, serving is more than a way to get things done. It is part of what it means to belong to the body of Christ.

Scripture teaches that every Christian has been brought into one body, with Christ as its head, and that every member has a meaningful part to play (1 Corinthians 12:12–27). God has given His people different gifts, abilities, experiences, and opportunities so that we can strengthen one another and participate together in His work.

That means ministry at Cedar Springs is not reserved for pastors, elders, or a small group of especially gifted people. The church grows as each member contributes what God has entrusted to them. Some serve publicly, while many serve quietly behind the scenes. Some teach, lead, or encourage. Others welcome people, care for children, prepare meals, maintain our facilities, pray, organize, give, or meet practical needs.

Every part matters.

Serving Helps Us Grow

Serving is also one of the ways God matures us.

Jesus described Himself as one who “came not to be served but to serve” (Mark 10:45), and following Him means learning to give ourselves for the good of others. As we serve, God often reveals gifts we did not know we had, strengthens gifts that are already present, and develops qualities such as humility, faithfulness, patience, compassion, and love.

We do not expect everyone to arrive already knowing exactly where they belong. Part of life in the church is discovering how God has equipped you and allowing others to help recognize and develop those gifts.

Find Your Place

Sometimes the best first question is simply, “Where am I needed?”

Other times, it may be helpful to consider what God has already placed in your hands. What are you good at? What needs do you naturally notice? What kinds of people do you enjoy serving? Where have others recognized gifting in you?

Whether you already know where you would like to serve or have no idea where to begin, there is room to take a next step. Our goal is not simply to fill positions. We want every member of Cedar Springs to experience the joy of contributing to the body, developing their gifts, and joining together in the work God has given His church to do.
