Take Note
What does it mean to be a people who truly belong to God? And what happens when God's presence becomes more important to us than anything he could give us?
In this second teaching in our Worthy series, we explore the contrast between Israel's idolatry at Mount Sinai and Moses' extraordinary desire for God's presence. While the Israelites quickly turned to a golden calf when God seemed distant, Moses refused to move forward without God's presence, even with the promise of an angel to guide him into the Promised Land.
Through Exodus 32–33, we're challenged to examine the idols we tolerate, the things that shape our identity, and whether our lives are genuinely centered on God. Moses wanted to be known above all else as someone who belonged to God. Is that our desire as well?
Ultimately, Jesus makes that kind of relationship possible. He offers light to those living in darkness, forgiveness to those who have turned away, and a new heart that increasingly desires to know God, belong to God, and live in his presence.
Key Scriptures: Exodus 32–33; John 8:12; 1 John 1:9; Ezekiel 36:26–27 (ESV)
