Take Note
In this message from 1 John 4:7–12, we explore one of the most profound statements in all of Scripture: God is love. The apostle John does not simply say that God shows love or teaches love. He says that love itself must be defined by God’s character and revealed through His Son, Jesus Christ.
In a world that constantly reshapes the meaning of love to fit human desires, Scripture calls us back to a clearer definition. Love is not self-centered, conditional, or transactional. True love is holy, initiating, forgiving, and life-giving. The clearest picture of that love is seen in Christ, who was sent by the Father to be the propitiation for our sins so that we might live through Him.
This sermon examines how Jesus makes God’s love visible and tangible, and what it means for believers to allow that same love to mature in their own lives. John teaches that the evidence of God’s presence is not power, popularity, or emotional experience. The true mark of spiritual maturity is love for one another.
We close with practical steps for living out God-defined love in everyday life: confronting our false definitions of love, repenting and receiving God’s grace, and practicing love within the community of believers through inviting, sharing, and serving.
