Take Note
The gospel is the greatest news ever given—far greater than the end of a war, the victory of a nation, or any celebration the world has ever known. In this first message of our GOOD series, we unpack the life-changing truth of the gospel and why it is truly good news. Jesus commands us in Mark 16:15 to "Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation," but to do that, we must first understand its depth and power.
At its core, the gospel is a message of victory- not just any victory, but the triumph of Jesus Christ over sin, death, and the grave. It is the news that we, though sinful and undeserving, have been offered salvation and eternal life through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
Four Truths of the Gospel
Salvation from Sin – Humanity’s greatest problem isn’t political, social, or economic—it’s sin. Romans 3:23 reminds us that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." But in His love, God sent Jesus to save us from our sins (Matthew 1:21). Through faith in Him, we receive His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21).
Salvation from Death to Life – Sin brings death, but the gospel proclaims life. Jesus declares in John 11:25, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live." His victory is not just over sin but over death itself (1 Corinthians 15:54-57).
An Unshakable Salvation – Unlike the fragile peace after a war, the gospel is a secure victory. Jesus promises in John 10:28-29 that nothing can snatch His people from His hand. Paul affirms this in Romans 8:38-39- nothing can separate us from God’s love.
A Free Gift from God – The gospel is not something we earn; it is grace. Ephesians 2:8-9 reminds us that salvation is "not your own doing; it is the gift of God." Unlike worldly debts that must be repaid, the price has already been paid by Jesus.
Our Response to the Gospel
The gospel demands a response. We are called to:
✔️ Acknowledge the reality of sin and death – Recognize our need for salvation.
✔️ Embrace Jesus' victory – Rejoice in what Christ has done.
✔️ Live in the hope of the gospel – Let the certainty of eternal life shape our daily lives.
✔️ Share the good news – Like the world rejoiced on VE Day, we are to proclaim Christ’s ultimate victory.
Romans 1:16 says, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes." Who in your life needs to hear this good news? Who will you invite into the celebration of Christ’s victory?
