Take Note
What if heaven is everything we have ever longed for, and yet we are the very reason we do not belong there?
In this Easter Sunday message from Cedar Springs Community Church, we look at the central promise of Christianity: that because Jesus Christ rose from the dead, eternal life is real, heaven is real, and the hope of salvation is real. Scripture describes heaven as a place without death, sorrow, pain, sickness, fear, or loss. It is the place of God’s perfect love, perfect goodness, and perfect presence. Yet that raises a serious question. If heaven is truly perfect, what happens when imperfect people enter it?
This sermon wrestles honestly with the problem of sin and the dilemma of heaven. We often assume we belong in a place of perfect peace, but the Bible confronts us with the truth that every one of us has contributed to the brokenness of this world. Our thoughts, desires, actions, and rebellion against God do not simply fall short. They work against love itself. If heaven is the fullness of God’s holy love, then sin is not a small issue. It is the very thing that would undo heaven’s perfection.
But Easter is the announcement that God has made a way.
Through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God does not ignore sin, excuse sin, or lower the standard of holiness. He deals with sin fully and justly at the cross. Jesus, the sinless Son of God, takes upon himself the guilt, debt, and punishment that sinners deserve, so that those who trust in him can be forgiven, cleansed, and made new. Easter is not only the message that your debt can be paid. It is also the promise that God can give you a new heart, a new Spirit, and a new nature fit for eternal life with Him.
In this message, we explore the beauty of heaven, the seriousness of sin, the justice of God, and the mercy offered through Christ. We reflect on what it means that Jesus did not merely come back from death, but defeated death, opening the door for sinners to be forgiven, transformed, and welcomed into the presence of God forever.
If you have ever felt the weight of your own failures, the pain you have caused, the hurt you carry, or the distance between yourself and God, this message is for you. Easter is an invitation. Not just to admire heaven from a distance, but to be brought into the perfect love of God through Jesus Christ.
