Take Note
In Zephaniah 3:9, God promises to restore to the peoples a "pure speech" so they may all call upon His name and serve Him with one accord. This looks forward to the undoing of Babel's confusion, fulfilled through Jesus Christ. In His life, death, and resurrection, Christ breaks down the barriers of sin and judgment. Through Him, the nations are brought near.
At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit empowers believers from many nations to speak the mighty works of God in one voice. The division of languages becomes a united song of praise. Christ is the one who purifies lips (Isaiah 6) and gathers the remnant (Zephaniah 3:12-13). He is the true King in the midst of His people (Zephaniah 3:15-17), bringing salvation, joy, and peace.
This verse is not only about language. It is about worship, unity, and gospel transformation that flows from Christ’s reign. Pentecost is the beginning of that new era.
